Tutoring

Introduction

I offer comprehensive tutoring services in a wide variety of courses, explaining the material and offering tips for studying and test taking. A listing of the most popular courses I tutor can be found below. Information about statistical consulting, proofreading, and editing services can be found on the Statistical Consulting page.

Qualifications

I've been tutoring, grading, teaching, coaching, and/or developing online training in some form or another for over 35 years. My degrees include:

  • BA Pure Math/BA Statistics, University of Chicago, 1988

  • MS Statistics, University of Minnesota, 1990

  • MS Mathematics, University of Minnesota, 2000

  • Operations Management Science Ph.D. program, University of Minnesota, 1991–1993

I have patience, excellent communication skills, and a sense of humor.

But perhaps my best qualification is that much of this material didn’t come easy to me. I had to work to figure it out, which makes me better at explaining it than people who just understood it and could do it the first time they saw the material.

Scheduling

Scheduling is flexible. The most common times are 8:30 AM–4:00 PM on weekdays, but weekday evenings and weekend times are available by appointment. I don't require any long-term contracts or commitments; you schedule time as you feel you need it. Most people schedule sessions for between 1 and 2 hours.

I graduated long ago and I'm no longer a student. I won't bail out on you at the end of the semester to study for finals like many tutors will.

Options include:

  • Online, using a video whiteboard and video chat

  • In-person at my home office in New Hope, MN (55427) [currently unavailable due to pandemic]

  • In-person at the University of Minnesota or other Twin Cities locations (2-hour minimum) [currently unavailable due to pandemic]

Use the Contact Us link to request an appointment. Be sure to include the names of the course or courses you need help with, your phone number and email address, the times that work best for you, and whether you would like to meet in New Hope or on campus.
